COVID Update 1 March, 2021
There has been changes in various states as listed below.
On February 17th, a new Restrictions on Businesses, Activities and Undertakings Direction (No. 13) was made effective in Queensland. A link to this Direction can be found here.
This particular Direction is of particular interest as it makes particular reference to
Requirements for multi-day events providing on-site accommodation with shared facilities…
In short the Direction states that all events that provide accommodation, irrespective of size, must lodge an COVID Safe Event Plan no less than 10 prior to the event commencing.
Whilst the positioning of this instruction within this Direction strongly suggested that it is designed to capture entertainment venues and events such as “marathons, cultural festivals, fetes, expos” and therefore is not designed to be applied to gathering such as occur at our facilities, it is non the less ambiguous.
Both Outdoors Queensland and CVA has written to the Qld Health to seek urgent clarification. A copy of CVA’s correspondence (including a reply) is available here.
Since receiving this reply we have also been made aware of other communications from various Departments of the Qld Government, noting that the following is yet to be “official” Government policy
The Direction was designed for facilities that either
- Did not normally operate accommodation and/or
- Did not have an Industry Plan in place
That the Direction did not apply to events with less than 500 persons attending where the venue operates under an COVID Industry Plan
Qld Health have a preference for venues to operate under the Queensland Tourism and Accommodation Industry COVID-Safe Plan for groups that are not part of the same cohort (i.e. most other groups except school groups), though a venue can switch between plans depending on the client group. The decision of what plan to use is the individual venue’s to make and must be defendable if questioned by Qld Health.
I state again that this is not as yet official government policy but is seemingly an indication of how the Government is thinking, and confirms that this directive was not intended for our sector.
Naturally, we will advise when further advise is issued.
As from February 12th there is no requirement for masks to be worn at venues unless groups are undertaking community singing (i.e. church retreat).
Space use is governed by 1 person per 2sqm
Effective February 26th,
Masks are no longer required at our venues, though must still be carried by all at all times
Space use is governed by 1 person per 2 sqm
Maximum group size is 30 persons (though again multiple groups of 30 are allowed)
The use of self-service buffets is “discouraged” but the use of them is not seemingly unlawful (click here - see page 6). As this instruction is for the wider hospitality industry, it could be seen that a residential facility such as a hat CVA members run would pose even a lower risk.
